I can’t believe how much time has passed since I first allocated funds to a new batting cage at Baker Skinner. San Jose Athletic Association manages the park and the youth baseball program there. After some consideration, the Association changed their request to a new restroom and I agreed to move the funds to that project, but the money available did not cover the cost. Several well-intentioned volunteers stepped up to assist with construction but could not reach agreement with the City on the terms of construction and funding and another season passed.
Thankfully, the Parks department has agreed to take on the project and will provide the additional funding required to complete the construction. While the restroom won’t be available at the beginning of the season, it will at least be under construction sometime this spring. Parks is using their standard design and the facility will be located near the fields closest to the parking area.
